My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light.

Back to the Drawing Board (or the Future)

Josephine received a letter from a set of Chambers yesterday, announcing that her application for an assessed summer mini-pupillage had been unsuccessful. It ended on a rather unsettling note:

"I would like to wish you every success in your search for the future."

And there was I thinking I was applying for pupillages and mini-pupillages...

It's always depressing to be rejected but try not to take it personally. I reckon its largely a numbers game: research chambers tell 'em why they are so interesting - drop a few names of lawyer's there an why they'd be great to see in action, yada yada.

That'd certainly work on me.

I think that's what's known as a cold reading. At least you have the comfort of knowing that, by this time tomorrow, you will have been partially successful...

Keep trying. Just because some over-important set in London said 'Not this summer Josephine' doesn't mean there's nothing to play for.

Goodness. As if looking for pupillage wasn't hard enough, now you have to find the future as well? Talk about a busy summer, JB.

Thank you Geeklawyer and Simon for the encouragement - it's much appreciated :)

I'm not too much in despair - at the time of submitting my applications for pupillage I hadn't gained much mini-pupillage experience, and have managed to secure a few over the summer and later in the year so one rejection isn't too much of a worry. It was the curious wording of the letter that I found particularly odd: clearly Far Too Busy to run a quick proof-read before posting.

ALS, yes quite. I feel the weight of destiny rest heavy on my shoulders. Or perhaps that's just a rucksack full of law books...
